The Dark Side of the Twinflame Delusion
In this week’s episode of my podcast, Spiritual Seeds, I spoke about twinflames. Let’s call it a Valentine's special! For some time I’ve observed this phenomenon from the outside and finally feel it’s time to throw my hat in the ring.
On the surface it’s a beautiful concept. The idea that the other half of your soul is out there waiting to be united with you. How romantic! That notion by itself wouldn't be so harmful if it wasn't for the industry that has built up around it.
The messaging about twinflame relationships, that is out there in the spiritual community today, sounds a bit like this; you think about them obsessively, you think the sun rises when they rise, you think you’re divinely destined to be together despite what the physical circumstances suggest, you feel you can only be complete by being with your twinflame, you have an intense longing or desire for them, intense eye contact is normal, you have an “us against the world” mentality.
I know people who are in relationships like this and it’s far from healthy. It has many correlations with “Obsessive Love Disorder”. Yes, this is an actual clinical mental health condition where you become obsessed with the person you think you may be in love with.
Many supposed twinflames are in abusive and dysfunctional relationships. People are staying in these relationships under the guise of it being divinely guided. People are afraid to leave because they think it will go against their destiny or they'll be abandoning the other half of their soul.
The victims here are some of the most vulnerable people in society; largely (but certainly not always) women who have been in abusive relationships. They are gaslit and emotionally exhausted people looking for help and they become a payday to equally misled psychics and healers.
And let's not forget the double standards here. If a group of cis men were online speaking about their twinflame relationships they’d be labelled as a potentially dangerous group of delusional stalkers, or something like that!
The bottom line is a pseudo-spiritual belief system should never come before mental health care and a grounded approach to the reality of your situation. Please seek help from a qualified mental health professional if you find yourself in this type of unhealthy relationship or are experiencing obsessive thoughts.
Be sure to listen to my podcast Ep. 3 The Great Twiflame Delusion to find out more about the origins of the belief system (with a more playful approach) and what the Arcturians, Mary Magdalene, Jesus and the Akashic Records have to say about.
